Honoree: Roy E. Brown (1943-2018) moved to New York at 13 and attended John Jay High School where his gift for singing was discovered. He began formal training in voice and music. At 17, he acknowledged a call to the ministry and began evangelizing. He became pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1966. In 1990, the year he was consecrated a bishop, he established Pilgrim Assemblies International, composed of churches throughout the United States, the Caribbean, South America and West Africa. He was elevated to the office of Archbishop in 1996. In 1998 the Pilgrim Church relocated from Brownsville to its present larger worship facility in Bedford-Stuyvesant. (Ampry-Samuel)
